Perhaps the greatest answer for this question is that losing weight is difficult because it is as much a psychological process as it is a physical process. You must mentally learn how to get daily exercise into your life and eat healthy.

You should take note of what you eat for a fortnight and then go back and analyze why you ate certain things at certain times. If you find you are eating bad things for a specific reason, you should find a way to overcome this.
