How To Squat For Better Results

It’s true, the standard barbell squat activates more muscles than most other exercises. And more muscle activation translates into more calories burned.

The problem here is that many people do not know how to squat correctly.

So here is how to improve your squatting technique:

1. Squat really deep: The deeper the better here. You see, deep squatting activates a lot more muscle mass and it also helps protect your lower back because when you squat deep you can’t let your form deviate. So avoid partial squats.

2. Use a belt: Ignore all the talk about weight lifting belts making your core weak. As long as you don’t wear a belt all the time, you will be just fine. And using a belt is a great way to increase stability within your lower back.

3. Don’t just focus on back squats: Doing back squats all the time will lead you to adaptation and eventually, a plateau. You have to mix things up here. And a good way to accomplish this is by alternating between back squats and front squats.

4. Do lunges: Don’t do lunges at the beginning of your workout, do them towards the middle. They do a great job at activating your glutes and hamstrings which in turn will help you squat more. The key with lunges is to go deep.

5. Increase core stability: The more stable your core is, the better. You see, a stable core will help you squat in a smoother fashion. You won’t have to deal with excessive shaking or any other type of distracting movement.

6. Don’t stick your chest out too much: While it’s important to not let your back round out, it’s also important to not overdo it here. If you stick your chest out too much, you can hyperextend your lower back. So just make sure you don’t bend forward.

Doing squats on a regular basis is a great way to increase the amount of calories you burn. So make sure you squat correctly and follow the advice here.
