How To Make Sure Lumbar Pain Doesn’t Set You Back
Lower back pain is the number one complaint in the western world. And to lose weight at the fastest rate possible, you need a healthy lower back in order to do compound movements.
So here is how to make sure pain doesn’t hold you back:
1. Get lumbar supports for everything: They are cheap and will provide automatic support every time you sit down. I recommend getting a lumbar support for every single thing you sit in. This will give you ease of mind and ensure proper posture when sitting.
2. Avoid early morning back flexion: In other words, do not bend over or flex your lower back at any point in the early morning. During this time period, your lower back has more fluid in its discs than usual, so you want to avoid movement for at least an hour.
3. Focus on stabilizers, not movers: Your lower back has muscles that help with stabilization and muscles that help with movement. If you focus on the movers (i.e., crunches) and neglect the stabilizers, your lower back will remain unstable.
4. Do not work through pain: If you have lower back pain and doing crunches aggravates it, stop immediately. Crunches, or any other type of abdominal movement, are not necessarily good for your back. And if they cause pain, they can increase damage.
5. Post your hand on something when picking things up: Don’t let your lower back absorb load when you are doing daily activities. One great way to avoid this is by posting your free hand on something and then pulling with it when you pick something up off the ground.
6. Avoid quick solution dependency: Instead, use quick solutions only when the pain is unbearable. Otherwise, make your long term strategy revolves around stabilizing and strengthening your lower back muscles. This is the best way to keep your lower back healthy forever.
Ameliorating lower back pain can take time, it won’t happen overnight. So make sure you approach this with patience. And take action on this information now, not later!
