How To Avoid Unsuspected Injuries As You Get In Shape
The worst type of injury is the one that takes place over long stretches of time because you never see it coming. And once it arrives, you probably have a damaged joint.
The major problem here is that once connective tissue is damaged, it’s virtually impossible to restore its complete function.
So, without further ado, here is what to avoid so that silent and hidden injuries don’t sideline you:
1. Making your tendons and ligaments strong before anything else: If you start off by lifting heavy weights with a high frequency, you are more at risk for joint damage. Instead, use lighter weights with heavier repetitions for best results.
2. Pounding the pavement too much: Running on solid surfaces is a surefire way to accelerate the degeneration of your lower back and knees. In fact, there are far superior forms of cardiovascular exercise. Now if you love running, proceed in moderation.
3. Stretching too infrequently: In my opinion, everybody should be stretching on a daily basis. You see, with modern day living, we are more stiff and rigid than ever. Unfortunately, being stiff and rigid sets you up for joint misalignments.
4. Focusing on stability or strength: Most fitness buffs will either spend all day on bosu balls or spend all day doing bench presses. However, rarely do you see someone that integrates both strength training and balance training into their routines.
5. Excessive pressing with slouched shoulders: If you have a forward hunch, you need to avoid pressing until it’s fixed. At the very least, double the amount of pulling you do in comparison to the pressing. If you don’t, you are at a very high risk for rotator cuff damage.
It makes no sense to sacrifice your exercise longevity because of poor planning. Take heed of the advice in this article and you will prolong your physical warranty!
