6 Ways To Make Better Use Of The Fat You Eat

Fat has been both hero and villain in our society. Recently, we have begun to accept fat as a vital nutrient for optimal health.

Unfortunately, despite this renewed interest in fat there is still much confusion going around.

So, without further delay, here is how to make sure dietary fat doesn’t delay your progress:

1. Watch serving sizes: Since fat has so many calories per gram, it’s very easy to gain weight if you eat too much of it. So make sure you keep a watchful eye on serving sizes so that you don’t go overboard here. And keep in mind that as you gain weight your body becomes less efficient at absorbing nutrients.

2. Have no more than one gram of fish oil per day: If you have more than this you run the risk of damaging your heart. You see, too many omega threes can cause increased amounts of atherosclerosis. So don’t go overboard with supplements.

3. Stay away from trans fats: Now this is very tricky because companies have come up with clever ways to hide trans fats in their products. So make sure you read the nutrition facts for everything you buy. And if you see the phrases “partially hydrogenated” or “vegetable shortening” make sure you go with a different product.

4. Eat coconut: Yes, coconut has saturated fat, but it’s structurally different from animal saturated fat. In fact, plant saturated fat is extremely healthy for you. So make sure you incorporate it into your diet, do not assume that it is unhealthy.

5. Balance your fat intake: Just like you are supposed to balance your intake of macronutrients, you should balance out your intake of different fat sources. Try to get monounsaturated, omega three, omega six and plant saturated fats in your diet.

6. Avoid fried foods: Even if the foods are healthy and are fried with healthy oils, once you apply heat to an oil it can become rancid. In other words, an oil that has a lot of heat applied to it can become extremely unhealthy.

Fat is critical for maximum health and fitness. Even more important, it’s critical for proper development of the human brain. So optimize you intake of fat today, don’t wait!
