5 Tips For Muscle Building Excellence
While working out to build muscle mass, eating enough of the right foods is just as important, if not more important, than actually working out. This one reason alone is why more people fail to pack on massive amounts of muscle than any other reason. It is actually a challenge to eat this much food at first and it is best if you are able to break it into six to seven meals throughout the day. If we take into account that 1 pound, whether it is muscle or fat, is the equivalent of 3500 calories, then if you want to gain 10 lbs over the course of a month, that is going to require that you eat a surplus of 35,000 calories in your diet.
You must have a plan. “Failing to plan is planning to fail” is a saying first attributed to the late, great Benjamin Franklin. I don’t think he was talking about bodybuilding when he said this, but he might as well had been. No matter what your goals are, whether you only want to gain 5 or 10 lbs, or if you want to put on 30 lbs of muscle in 4 months, you are not going to achieve it by simply working out here and there and eating whatever you want. Results like these are the consequences of a well thought out and detailed plan of action.
If your goal is to sabotage your efforts and injure yourself, then the best way to do this is to over train. Many people want to see immediate gains while trying to build muscle, so they hit the gym everyday and focus an entire workout on one or two muscle groups. They might see results in the beginning, but after a month or two of this kind of regimen and they will either hit a plateau or worse, injure themselves. Most people are pleasantly surprised once they see the kind of gains that they achieve simply by adding another day off in between their workouts.
Immediately after your workout, you should drink a protein smoothie or eat a nice, full meal. For about 45 minutes directly after your drop your last weight, there is an optimal time that your muscles are ready to just soak up and use any nutrients that you provide to them. This is an opportune time to give them what they are yearning for, which is both quality protein and quality nutrients. Doing this is beneficial in two ways: It can boost your body’s natural testosterone level while simultaneously decreasing your cortisol levels.
Perform different exercises – Many people will tell you to change up your exercises, because your muscles will adapt to the movements and will stop growing as a result. This is simply false, because muscles only grow for one reason, and that is because you are lifting heavier weights. I recommend incorporating new exercises into your routine simply to keep from getting bored. It mixes things up a little and different exercises will work different parts of the muscles.
